I had lots of fun coming up with a design and going for it! <br />
<br />
I also finally started on the Fireworks quilt my mom picked out. The blocks are beautiful but take a long time. Each block has 73 pieces!!!<br />

Lisa from Vintage Modern Quilts (find her blog here http://www.vintagemodernquilts.com) kindly sent me some blue and yellow scraps to go along with what I finally found in my stash. <br />
<br />
I hope my blocks and the quilt they are made into can comfort someone after such a tragedy. <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFrugmilhgODrtMMzNsP4IRRYY1uJ_7xGYwqU5oD4aeyEF_r7vFybl8p5zT8jJIocSp3iTu6Stj0-8ywaBksEO2j3K0tK3SaqYTkIlSD2aHuUPjyC4ihiMy-21RJu3V49Psv4a1Cev7cew/s640/blogger-image-1520341991.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFrugmilhgODrtMMzNsP4IRRYY1uJ_7xGYwqU5oD4aeyEF_r7vFybl8p5zT8jJIocSp3iTu6Stj0-8ywaBksEO2j3K0tK3SaqYTkIlSD2aHuUPjyC4ihiMy-21RJu3V49Psv4a1Cev7cew/s640/blogger-image-1520341991.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9YwwE89HMJMM9hZGVX7g8UP0WcdvhuwjGFfZK1ZYFbGaU_0rQtKKMBxfwhSWIG-D7DY8FA1tkDCGLkXRjKqHXBHCLvNfj5wvjTvkZSikDG2s3QeC34cTPhV-cfTUPXF_P8Y3QDkuRAa6E/s640/blogger-image-164279118.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9YwwE89HMJMM9hZGVX7g8UP0WcdvhuwjGFfZK1ZYFbGaU_0rQtKKMBxfwhSWIG-D7DY8FA1tkDCGLkXRjKqHXBHCLvNfj5wvjTvkZSikDG2s3QeC34cTPhV-cfTUPXF_P8Y3QDkuRAa6E/s640/blogger-image-164279118.jpg" /></a></div>Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13946642384736641325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580374892684688256.post-2413162114784891722013-04-29T11:59:00.001-04:002013-04-29T11:59:24.010-04:00New Finishes And WIPI have made several more bags for lots of different people. It is so nice to be able to make something in a short amount of time in between quilting. <br />
<br />
I pulled out a Jellybean quilt I was making into three smaller quilts. I added a border and basted it to practice free motion quilting. I am enjoying it but it takes a while! <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivtfHxTxfFTiAYrHWK-QCa1r-P2wUwuvtpzSYsp3Gha3bMX5XQnC2aCQ5HKayafUU3UDdQlMpMNcPCq4tXuxPKL5kb3sxNSB5-8qKjqLan5aB_VFfITJOwxlIp0YQ6YvlLm3KfNzStHkqL/s640/blogger-image-1339715620.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivtfHxTxfFTiAYrHWK-QCa1r-P2wUwuvtpzSYsp3Gha3bMX5XQnC2aCQ5HKayafUU3UDdQlMpMNcPCq4tXuxPKL5kb3sxNSB5-8qKjqLan5aB_VFfITJOwxlIp0YQ6YvlLm3KfNzStHkqL/s640/blogger-image-1339715620.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrRV1uFjQUH4B43V_8MWVEYScP3xs0zSg4qiWJ91mIASajG-ISrGfcLpmMGhxb0UPfwRAtP-zA0u6Im0_ltzfzGQba8Ysxs1Wks8Y3AZgAEuow1AnIS_MghI3frDVgEHoovYJ_Lv3IwrNq/s640/blogger-image-1721407644.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrRV1uFjQUH4B43V_8MWVEYScP3xs0zSg4qiWJ91mIASajG-ISrGfcLpmMGhxb0UPfwRAtP-zA0u6Im0_ltzfzGQba8Ysxs1Wks8Y3AZgAEuow1AnIS_MghI3frDVgEHoovYJ_Lv3IwrNq/s640/blogger-image-1721407644.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDGWPbyzyySJfDrdrtv_ZL1XBpaH0PvDgXWhXazo3_gfKDWeJ4OI-7xA9J8WHR6xEiCYXPx5q9WTusxFysIqnVF0R9qNkDbrfD28iz_45R1enyyxjpvdpY57SiUrBSIBFR-Ix2zJ7ozk1l/s640/blogger-image--1080615922.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDGWPbyzyySJfDrdrtv_ZL1XBpaH0PvDgXWhXazo3_gfKDWeJ4OI-7xA9J8WHR6xEiCYXPx5q9WTusxFysIqnVF0R9qNkDbrfD28iz_45R1enyyxjpvdpY57SiUrBSIBFR-Ix2zJ7ozk1l/s640/blogger-image--1080615922.jpg" /></a></div>Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13946642384736641325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580374892684688256.post-51704274700299532702013-04-11T12:57:00.001-04:002013-04-11T12:57:04.223-04:00LatelySince the move I have been working on smaller random projects. It is so nice to work on smaller things such as bags. I feel like I have accomplished so much unlike working on a quilt. <br />
<br />
I also started a new BOM (even though I have kept up with the first)! It is the Modern BOM 2 from Sew, Mama, Sew. The blocks are designed by Alyssa from Pile 'o Fabric. We will make six large blocks which will be a nice change. I chose Auburn colors hoping to make it for Philip, but I had to add a gray and light blue. I hope he likes it! <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4oNI37FMwh796WdjOZ8HsItqBTCfPaiVuwXo1bhnOjsVZtP4o5Vh5XqWj5pIwEVilWocRtsjndi1X8G93CLxgdz-POkvOThN5sDIAFUKBIERY_ALTfflL_MfHh9WJ2Ia1TRvib2KZOYt7/s640/blogger-image-953683137.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4oNI37FMwh796WdjOZ8HsItqBTCfPaiVuwXo1bhnOjsVZtP4o5Vh5XqWj5pIwEVilWocRtsjndi1X8G93CLxgdz-POkvOThN5sDIAFUKBIERY_ALTfflL_MfHh9WJ2Ia1TRvib2KZOYt7/s640/blogger-image-953683137.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvp3PWPHA89qzBMAkz_ii-OBYbzgJwop4vnVf7eQq3e272iHVKByo17XQW93Zqvbc_OVGRMbnZpKOIFAFv0vUW_e6SsGuScqNmhVakuTmPZCnUNHAJ-9pQJaY464oD76Uko8teFEv6DUK7/s640/blogger-image--1523299379.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvp3PWPHA89qzBMAkz_ii-OBYbzgJwop4vnVf7eQq3e272iHVKByo17XQW93Zqvbc_OVGRMbnZpKOIFAFv0vUW_e6SsGuScqNmhVakuTmPZCnUNHAJ-9pQJaY464oD76Uko8teFEv6DUK7/s640/blogger-image--1523299379.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFxgZFii4OUQqxE408d7zoibEKftgYuduAFu3pBSJD8_KYrnEX0pw4IlD-XR8_MPEhfGUeuSlrw5TLn9_nmoD5UEzcrbeaBZBR18Y_rGp7HUrs1MoKh5V1fFJHtaXgA6R94sMt4XITUCK6/s640/blogger-image--739591691.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFxgZFii4OUQqxE408d7zoibEKftgYuduAFu3pBSJD8_KYrnEX0pw4IlD-XR8_MPEhfGUeuSlrw5TLn9_nmoD5UEzcrbeaBZBR18Y_rGp7HUrs1MoKh5V1fFJHtaXgA6R94sMt4XITUCK6/s640/blogger-image--739591691.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg-IMZ9315uzBHUunHdzr4LqPcr8PCgcfb_hpz7ntycV_id3zzwnZxI77NpsQsQ8sjJHJnZum_s_RG_OdoI6gPJN_HFsbF9vL_o8WHu8LJYD1SwBMq7377rXRbR_DrJNQ0DOHqwoLOUBTD/s640/blogger-image-2002902168.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg-IMZ9315uzBHUunHdzr4LqPcr8PCgcfb_hpz7ntycV_id3zzwnZxI77NpsQsQ8sjJHJnZum_s_RG_OdoI6gPJN_HFsbF9vL_o8WHu8LJYD1SwBMq7377rXRbR_DrJNQ0DOHqwoLOUBTD/s640/blogger-image-2002902168.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZPnoJg7P1u3f2IDlZuI2XRxN4WjFE48BTvkZAJPTmDyNaKKksgWaJ9GaBOuQhHaqqJkR3Bo7xMOyInL4ccG1adpVfzO2DJVhYKduGxajXlZMVhAj97f1IUdip0QrDHz19RPb6nSojAy1s/s640/blogger-image-1932513750.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZPnoJg7P1u3f2IDlZuI2XRxN4WjFE48BTvkZAJPTmDyNaKKksgWaJ9GaBOuQhHaqqJkR3Bo7xMOyInL4ccG1adpVfzO2DJVhYKduGxajXlZMVhAj97f1IUdip0QrDHz19RPb6nSojAy1s/s640/blogger-image-1932513750.jpg" /></a></div>Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13946642384736641325noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580374892684688256.post-960385211813078272013-02-22T12:01:00.001-05:002013-02-22T12:01:32.096-05:00Trying New ThingsAfter reading other quilting and seeing blogs for several years, I have seen lots of amazing free motion quilting. This means that the quilter (most of them) does not use the machine to help move the quilt to make stitches. Because I don't draw well I always assumed that it would be too hard. I think I did try a looooong time ago, but I didn't know what I was doing and tried to stitch over.a piece of paper with a pattern while using the feed dogs on the machine. What a disaster! <br />
I have, in the past few, weeks watched many YouTube videos from Leah Day's The Free Motion Quilting Project. She has many, many videos in which she demonstrates quilting different designs. <br />
I also was inspired after watching the videos from a QAL at Pile O Fabric. She also includes lots of helpful information for newbies (and made me want to join in with the QAL). However, I have a lot already on my plate with moving. I also don't want to make and then ruin by quilting all those blocks.<br />
Yesterday while Collin napped, I got everything set up. Well, I should have ordered a few more tools but went for it without them. Below you can see my first attempt at stippling. There were a few places where my lines crossed. I am still very proud of myself for attempting this. I now know that with a little more practice, it is do-able! <br />
<br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv8tfolUAYP5yYrGV0DDpZMaJZOm9OYy8ptsauwx8HflHBT-ly_S0ZNvDM_HHqIvqtt08y8snS2AXMdS5Mx6EXPEFoc6CWK5IQYoBtPiySoAkmjvgSf23qFsGW5mRk5h713HQyY47o9rf8/s640/blogger-image-1686470809.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv8tfolUAYP5yYrGV0DDpZMaJZOm9OYy8ptsauwx8HflHBT-ly_S0ZNvDM_HHqIvqtt08y8snS2AXMdS5Mx6EXPEFoc6CWK5IQYoBtPiySoAkmjvgSf23qFsGW5mRk5h713HQyY47o9rf8/s640/blogger-image-1686470809.jpg" /></a></div>Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13946642384736641325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580374892684688256.post-54470828781370797832013-01-25T21:33:00.001-05:002013-01-25T21:33:22.644-05:00Spools Quilt FinishI finally finished the Spools quilt that I have been blogging about! I am so excited that it is finished and can't wait to give it back to Nana complete!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8507/8415898362_a78c871432.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="500" width="388" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8507/8415898362_a78c871432.jpg" /></a></div>
This is the whole quilt! It ended up being about 60x65.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8507/8415898362_a78c871432.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="500" width="388" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8507/8415898362_a78c871432.jpg" /></a></div>
Another picture of the whole quilt. I had a great time putting each block together and also putting the rows and columns together. It was pretty difficult to make sure that it was all balanced.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8331/8414798557_19ffb8169e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="500" width="375" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8331/8414798557_19ffb8169e.jpg" /></a></div>
A lady from Nana's quilt guild quilted this for us. She quilted back and forth through each spool and loops in between. It really looks like thread on a spool and tangled thread. She did a great job!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8055/8415892538_1ef96ebe5d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="500" width="375" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8055/8415892538_1ef96ebe5d.jpg" /></a></div>
For the backing, I chose to make another column of spools to line up with the front. The long-arm quilter did a great job of matching it up so the quilting would be the same.
I know Nana can't wait to get her quilt back. She plans to keep it on her bed. :)Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13946642384736641325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580374892684688256.post-53812507617449166672013-01-14T17:01:00.000-05:002013-01-14T17:01:05.363-05:00Not Much ActionI haven't sewn too much since Christmas. We got the Spools quilt done by a long-arm quilter. I am waiting for my mom to bring it this week so I can get the binding sewn on. My grandmother was so excited and surprised when she opened the box with the quilt top in it!<br />
<br />
The story behind the quilt: My grandmother has been quilting for almost as long as I can remember. She has sewn for most of her life, but after she retired she learned to quilt. One Christmas, I asked her to buy me a beginning quilting book. After I got the book, she helped me make a very simple patchwork quilt. It is not big at all, but it was my first quilt and is still special. From there, I started reading blogs and finding patterns online, always calling Nana when I ran into a problem or needed an opinion. She taught me how to use a rotary cutter, how to tack a quilt, how to make and attach border, and how to make and attach binding. Without her help, I would not know anything about quilting nor would I have ever looked into getting started. I owe all of my quilting to her. I wanted to make something special for her to thank her for teaching me. When I saw the Spools quilt pattern, I knew it was perfect for Nana since it related to sewing and quilting. I can't wait to finish the binding up and attach a label and give the quilt back to its new owner!<br />
<br />
The other quilt was for my mother-in-law. I took the batting and everything to finish it when we went home for Christmas, but I did not have ANY time to do it. I accidently left the batting there so I am waiting for that to come with my mom this week too. <br />
<br />
In other news, I am excited to say that I am in the process of testing a new pattern for Tie Dye Diva Sewing Patterns. After the pattern is released, I can show more. :)Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13946642384736641325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580374892684688256.post-72060994547661388522012-12-18T09:04:00.001-05:002013-01-14T16:52:43.696-05:00Christmas PresentsThis year I decided to make two quilts as presents. Here are a few pictures of one of them. <br />

(Because I want her to have one and because I know I will have to finish it before Collin is born.) I knew I wanted to use the <a href="http://www.pinkchalkfabrics.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=39_75_426&products_id=5158">Skittles pattern by Kate Conklin Designs</a>. After being told their nursery would be centered around anything pink, I went searching for fabric. One day last week, I took P to the quilt shop with me while I was looking for fabrics for this quilt. I setteled on Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille and chose three gray prints and three pink prints. I paired it with Kona Snow which was the perfect match! <br />
<br />
Here is a bad cell phone picture from before I basted it. (Not a good idea to be 36 weeks pregnant and crawling on the floor!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHJmHyVJv4mvc1HevuI0DtfJm-XuFQLmxj92qTxFe-ZLq_1ISowp-DeA3_eTSiSR5FAv3xBBMynf3SjbDFVJxTT8PBMEY6Km28vLk1MSAVr8_tAg9eR3FBQQRxZL-uRVhCyvd3AMsw79Uo/s1600/photo%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" kda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHJmHyVJv4mvc1HevuI0DtfJm-XuFQLmxj92qTxFe-ZLq_1ISowp-DeA3_eTSiSR5FAv3xBBMynf3SjbDFVJxTT8PBMEY6Km28vLk1MSAVr8_tAg9eR3FBQQRxZL-uRVhCyvd3AMsw79Uo/s320/photo%5B1%5D.JPG" width="295" /></a></div>
<br />
The quilt top was easy to make. It only took me a day. I decided to make the quilt top a little longer and added a 1.5" (1" finished) section between each row. Since I made the top, I have been out of town and I am just getting back to work on it. Today I had a new adventure. As usual, I used my walking foot for the quilting. However, I decided to use the guide bar that came with it rather than tape to make the straight lines. About a quarter of the way through, the entire bar fell off. Obviously this did not make a very straight or accurate line. I ended up "unquilting" the entire thing. :( I wanted to be happy with the results of the quilt and I knew I would not be happy with a very crooked line. The photo below shows where I was taking out the stitches. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXHkzBOmdWUYpqM3ej75WxdrJFpGfjS2QUEzOKA-sC_XmOkU-OFaPkmCEtD7PDuMlkSLYyyztfz-EbcQ7NQ4ddEHgYqFv0PluuTv-NSh6QLurkhiC0oC2Gt-9KzbuQl2oR1Ekwl5Bc7pcn/s1600/BW-unquilting.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" kda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXHkzBOmdWUYpqM3ej75WxdrJFpGfjS2QUEzOKA-sC_XmOkU-OFaPkmCEtD7PDuMlkSLYyyztfz-EbcQ7NQ4ddEHgYqFv0PluuTv-NSh6QLurkhiC0oC2Gt-9KzbuQl2oR1Ekwl5Bc7pcn/s400/BW-unquilting.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
Because the blocks finished up at almost 12" wide, I was able to quilt three lines about three inches apart. I also quilted down the center of the 1" sections I added and then on either side of these sections. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZfcaUJ9hrTk76jtSWbVbJY4wlXOWxKuagp-ccjLFKKKVOo9AEvaXYrU6tcEqcPiwn092YjQI6Fc8yXWj7gfahTUYA4HdvIRfR8aOtXk-8Ji9Hs1lYZFjOVdAIC9_5GjiJN665E1xnJhyphenhyphenj/s1600/BW_Hera.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" kda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZfcaUJ9hrTk76jtSWbVbJY4wlXOWxKuagp-ccjLFKKKVOo9AEvaXYrU6tcEqcPiwn092YjQI6Fc8yXWj7gfahTUYA4HdvIRfR8aOtXk-8Ji9Hs1lYZFjOVdAIC9_5GjiJN665E1xnJhyphenhyphenj/s400/BW_Hera.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I am not crazy about the quilting through the middle of the sections but it was the first part I did. I am hoping it will look better after it is washed. It just looks quite indented to me right now. Overall, I am very happy with the quilting. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9JSYlds4DwrLaIMPmk0xI2U8r50hyphenhyphensNEpXufj1U0CVWNYf1SAsf4ZV2eE8RcUlceD0bkPKmEg-q-fNzuUdQd-0ykKToavpP2HpN9Erop28uvBgxAi0xTQuYovxqRbEK22kkk0Hf6y-0zK/s1600/BW-quilting.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" kda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9JSYlds4DwrLaIMPmk0xI2U8r50hyphenhyphensNEpXufj1U0CVWNYf1SAsf4ZV2eE8RcUlceD0bkPKmEg-q-fNzuUdQd-0ykKToavpP2HpN9Erop28uvBgxAi0xTQuYovxqRbEK22kkk0Hf6y-0zK/s400/BW-quilting.JPG" width="346" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Now I am off to make true bias binding using a print from Ruby by Bonnie and Camille so I can get it attached and the quilt sent on its way. :)Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13946642384736641325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580374892684688256.post-6675115394184916992012-07-21T12:00:00.000-04:002012-07-21T12:00:29.742-04:00Sewing for Sister and BabyAfter enjoying a nice, long weekend in the Upstate, it was back to our world on Tuesday. Since then, I have worked on making two bags for my sister. She loves her <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html">gathered clutch</a> I made her over a year ago. Unfortunately, it looks dingy and she has too much in it. She requested a larger bag that can hold her money and receipts. After seeing the <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/2012/06/open-wide-zippered-pouch-diy-tutorial.html">Wide Mouth Bag</a> on Noodlehead, I figured this may be the one. The zipper is attached in a special way so that the top of the bag opens very wide.<br />
<br />
Below you can see the two different bags I made. The top one follows the original tutorial as far as size. However, I decided that it was too tall for her to keep her money in. I decided to make another bag two inches shorter. The bottom is what it turned out like. I am happy with the bag, but do not like the way the divider did in the middle. I will have to keep working on that. Overall, the bag will serve its purpose. Now I have to make another one for her friend just like the little one. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnqCgE9meh58rgTUNNFaXAtnfSHomgMk5OCt9qecX3XlF47LAjMScFaWXenGNiaZrb_wpBZOSv3ckckmYugE5UZaVX0P0DdLMjOjqQQeveUvo5QO-7SRNK6C73qu9B9zqDaH4NJjSzU7zv/s1600/SAM_0565.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hda="true" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnqCgE9meh58rgTUNNFaXAtnfSHomgMk5OCt9qecX3XlF47LAjMScFaWXenGNiaZrb_wpBZOSv3ckckmYugE5UZaVX0P0DdLMjOjqQQeveUvo5QO-7SRNK6C73qu9B9zqDaH4NJjSzU7zv/s400/SAM_0565.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Since coming back home, I have spent a lot of time thinking about what we still need for baby. One thing I knew we needed were some burp cloths. I have been saving this blue, green, and gray flannel for a special project, and I believe this is it! The green I am using to make some cloth wipes that we can use for anything. I also found some white chenille and some blue terrycloth that I am going to use for the back of some of the cloths. I can't wait for baby to be here and be able to use all these things! Only 8 more weeks until his due date! :)<br />

She bought all the materials to make it, but she wanted me to make it for her (even though she is a great quilter). When I was home last weekend, she gave me the supplies and this week, I got to work on it. <br />

After seeing this <a href="http://www.sewsweetness.com/2012/06/purse-palooza-pattern-review-in-color.html">review</a> on Sew Sweetness about Jeni's Lined Drawstring Bag, I knew I had to make one. I followed <a href="http://incolororder.blogspot.com/2011/10/lined-drawstring-bag-tutorial.html">Jeni's tutorial</a> and added the pockets like Terri said in <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X-liXCX7pB7vY1FYyYrR84kYkFaELH2bRIr7KjRvyUI/edit?pli=1">this tutorial</a>. The only thing that I did differently than the tutorials was that I sewed across the pockets 1.5" from the middle on each side to make room for the bottom. I didn't want small things to fall straight to the bottom and really under the bag when I put them in the pockets. I love the way this bag turned out. It is a great size without being too small or too large. While cutting, I cut enough to make several more bags. I also want to make a bag out of Flea Market Fancy very similar to the one that Terri made on her review with one solid outer fabric and the pocket. I will be making this bag again for sure! <br />

<br />
The Cars quilt is the one I received the kit from Downy to make. It included everything by the binding. I intended to fold over the backing to make the binding. Without even thinking, I squared up the quilt after quilting and cut the extra backing right off! The next morning, I ran out and bought some bias tape to use for the binding. This quilt is different from other things I have made in several ways. First off, it had to be heavily quilted to withstand the many harsh washes at the hospital. Also, the binding needed to be zig-zag stitched so that it would not get caught on IVs. I think this quilt turned out great! I am glad I was able to make this Cars quilt for a child in the hospital. I hope it brightens their day.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
For receiving the quilt kit, they ask that you also donate a quilt that meets their specifications. I was already working on three smaller quilts using a Hullabaloo jelly roll that I bought a while back. Since they sent me fabric for a boyish quilt, I knew I wanted to make a girly one to send as my donation. Since the center was square, I just added larger borders to the top and bottom. The pink border is a print I picked up from my LQS but was not from the same line. It matches nicely though. <br />

Now all I need to do is get them in the mail! Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13946642384736641325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580374892684688256.post-33694485376574870212012-06-07T13:46:00.001-04:002012-06-07T13:46:40.788-04:00Working Hard!Over the past week, I have been working hard to finish up lots of different projects. As I said last time, my sewing room has to turn into the baby's nursery so I am losing my table and lots of space. Never fear, I have stashed all my fabric and things in the closet. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdQO9S0MgKZZ0ZHrAPmvYPvR3NMt0QzBPHHtgLVv1DOYgzabou5HcEOzuIVIgTqN0Lu5_ZRH0AOrzMi8tWvYOHfmQjuGXX2VvfsCBgl1xkYBvmF5JZMXQb2O8UzOkVt7riyyi9Jj2HD6Yp/s1600/SAM_0554.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdQO9S0MgKZZ0ZHrAPmvYPvR3NMt0QzBPHHtgLVv1DOYgzabou5HcEOzuIVIgTqN0Lu5_ZRH0AOrzMi8tWvYOHfmQjuGXX2VvfsCBgl1xkYBvmF5JZMXQb2O8UzOkVt7riyyi9Jj2HD6Yp/s320/SAM_0554.JPG" width="238" /></a></div>
This is a quilt top that I made before we moved. The pattern is <a href="http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2011/04/chopsticks.html">Chopsticks</a> from Julie at Jaybird Quilts. The fabric is a mix of two lines by Deb Strain: Fresh and Fresh Flowers. The two collections work well together and use the same colors. My favorite prints are the blue ones. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2zDRkVyxmnzgRub8iA_pc_EAnMUfcMs7ZOb-qgjFWYXuj5NK1jcw1ODP_vHA_LyOktgTAwyCQhz6zFAolC54vFHEZJa3YN4kKlVVuNJnzKh6OQBrzUMPz2Ztu7b9xp4d61f-iyyka2acL/s1600/SAM_0555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2zDRkVyxmnzgRub8iA_pc_EAnMUfcMs7ZOb-qgjFWYXuj5NK1jcw1ODP_vHA_LyOktgTAwyCQhz6zFAolC54vFHEZJa3YN4kKlVVuNJnzKh6OQBrzUMPz2Ztu7b9xp4d61f-iyyka2acL/s320/SAM_0555.JPG" width="234" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />For the backing of this quilt, I chose to go a different direction. I knew when I dug the top out, I was going to give this quilt to a friend who is expecting a baby girl in late August. Since they are Clemson fans, I saw the orange polka dots and knew it would be perfect. Although you may not be able to see in the pictures, several of the prints include orange in them. I can't wait to give this quilt to her soon.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLkpBmpzsXEFwhATPEfNov8QFkIjXi1QwDwR6RcTHbZQ3FD5SQsIfddQ5AthzVwr1dqVz6ckYWTB1Lnk4RA-9WU8BJVPHbhu7VeSaUrSMahx0hFoliT-R8ptJbHX_a1kTMYBtVInZMZnnf/s1600/SAM_0552.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLkpBmpzsXEFwhATPEfNov8QFkIjXi1QwDwR6RcTHbZQ3FD5SQsIfddQ5AthzVwr1dqVz6ckYWTB1Lnk4RA-9WU8BJVPHbhu7VeSaUrSMahx0hFoliT-R8ptJbHX_a1kTMYBtVInZMZnnf/s320/SAM_0552.JPG" width="286" /></a></div>
After working on it for about two years, this quilt is finally finished (well, except for the binding...coming soon). I started it one afternoon thinking it would be fairly quick. The pattern is Mini Wild Thing from the <a href="http://www.thimbleblossoms.com/Thimble_Blossoms/Thimble_Blossoms_Home/Entries/2009/5/8_pint-sized.html">Pint-Size Pattern</a> by Camille of Thimble Blossoms. When I bought this fabric a long time ago, I just bought a charm pack. I never thought of trying to find more at the time in case I needed it later. Needless to say, when I began actually working on this quilt I did not have fabric for the borders or the backing. I went on a mad hunt for some that coordinated and this what what I found. I know that flowers are not the best option for boys but it was all I could find. I don't think he will mind too much. :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_8cqXzUpXam_9smZL1mQ3t-EatnMbFWkIDeSJn-TGKHsG4dvDFgD0bpWpk4bEQ0huhnssIETiKf47qQeYZXKJ2Sx-lZIgJBfGX5bfIwEk-ZTHo0cJohnyF5O-94TzKCOnFoMZjpp02mMR/s1600/SAM_0553.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_8cqXzUpXam_9smZL1mQ3t-EatnMbFWkIDeSJn-TGKHsG4dvDFgD0bpWpk4bEQ0huhnssIETiKf47qQeYZXKJ2Sx-lZIgJBfGX5bfIwEk-ZTHo0cJohnyF5O-94TzKCOnFoMZjpp02mMR/s320/SAM_0553.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I was so afraid of messing up the quilting, I sent the quilt to a long arm quilter. When we moved, we didn't know we moved near the largest quilt shop in Georgia! I took the quilt to A Scarlet Thread to be quilted. The pattern was called Van Gogh. This is a close up of the quilting which turned out great! My last task for today is to prepare the binding for it before I put away my machine. Hopefully stitching on the binding will keep me occupied for a while. <br />
<br />
I also finished both of the quilts for Quilts for Kids, but I feel like they deserve their own post. <br />
<br />
I can't believe all that I have finished in such a short period of time! I am very proud of myself and disappointed that it may be a while before I finish another large project. Unless I take over the kitchen table. :)Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13946642384736641325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580374892684688256.post-54569424198546478052012-05-29T10:09:00.000-04:002012-05-29T10:09:01.438-04:00Huge UpdateI am really going to try to get back into the habit of blogging about my projects regularly. Before I jump to that, there are several updates that need to be made. The biggest update is that we are having a baby boy! His name will be Collin and he is due on September 15, 2012. We are very excited and can't wait for him to be here. We have also moved. We now live just south of the big city of Atlanta, GA. I have been here for about a month and like it so far.<br />
<br />
Since we moved, I have been sewing like crazy. I finished a quilt that I started several years ago that will now belong to Collin. I will share it when I get the binding on. I also quilted and bound another quilt for a friend who is having a baby girl.<br />
<br />
I saw <a href="http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2012/05/downy-touch-of-comfort-quilts-for-kids-making-a-four-patch-quilt.html">this</a> blog post on Make It and Love It, one of the first blogs I ever read, that made me want to help out. She posted about how she was making a quilt for Downy Touch of Comfort-Quilts for Kids. They send out kits and also accept quilts meeting certain requirements for children who are in the hospital. It took a few weeks to receive my kit. Here is my progress so far. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5RQH6ZdP649ks4dPDIz-raBsclesDWdUqK_LCuc9li_TAAbixljEiHTEa33Wey9uALKX4OO5x5hyxmTDplzBvaOGC-rwCyEv6eq6_AVevr_MuFa6JW8R49Jo4cvnqnKQQ-wME1heAGNGv/s1600/328.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5RQH6ZdP649ks4dPDIz-raBsclesDWdUqK_LCuc9li_TAAbixljEiHTEa33Wey9uALKX4OO5x5hyxmTDplzBvaOGC-rwCyEv6eq6_AVevr_MuFa6JW8R49Jo4cvnqnKQQ-wME1heAGNGv/s320/328.JPG" width="279" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
They sent all the fabric and the backing. The only thing they did not send that I would normally use is the binding. I will try a new method that involves folding over an extra portion of the backing (which is red Mickey Mouse-cute!) since it needs to be zig-zag stitched on anyway. <br />
<br />
I am also making another quilt to send back with this quilt. I have three identical quilts right now. Two I hope will turn out differently. They are made from an older jelly roll of Hullabaloo. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixvbA9B6G234LvjiDr5QaxPfsH-KY1peOhcIP988LPmYFm6BLlp2xGN_1WAKlQZ82808tnyKM7eRuJ46AbU9bMOPmvEVY3ZALJ6FoHqV3g5he9LQa8Dx5cXUWE9Qw1asjN-qrOKFUYC69q/s1600/326.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="307" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixvbA9B6G234LvjiDr5QaxPfsH-KY1peOhcIP988LPmYFm6BLlp2xGN_1WAKlQZ82808tnyKM7eRuJ46AbU9bMOPmvEVY3ZALJ6FoHqV3g5he9LQa8Dx5cXUWE9Qw1asjN-qrOKFUYC69q/s320/326.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I finished up a pillow project I started about a year and a half ago. It is for my Nana, who taught me to quilt. I was making an orange peel pillow and had started to applique all the pieces by hand. I found this while cleaning out and decided to finish it up on the machine. I added some borders and an envelope back and it was done!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXbcjDamPsgyI2oopuPZx1oCpG5JFUAImaS7J2vzLiXK8rRQkXVaXSIadj-mu9KoW-Nm1zVcfSXCUTrAmudelfgv6Fzv_uobKVoCFiikPh6J4-pyYUoK8ets0Z_AGpwc6WN8BYn5RxmyNR/s1600/330.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="314" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXbcjDamPsgyI2oopuPZx1oCpG5JFUAImaS7J2vzLiXK8rRQkXVaXSIadj-mu9KoW-Nm1zVcfSXCUTrAmudelfgv6Fzv_uobKVoCFiikPh6J4-pyYUoK8ets0Z_AGpwc6WN8BYn5RxmyNR/s320/330.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />I am about to sacrifice my sewing room to turn into the nursery. I am sure I will find time to sew, just in a different room. I have organized all my fabric again so that I can find it easily to get sewing later. Here is a picture before I started sewing yesterday.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I've still got lots to finish before I lose my table. I will be back at it today! I have always enjoyed everything about this holiday. I am going home today to spend some time with my family until New Year's. I have been told this will be the best Christmas ever, so we will see. <br />
<br />
I made this First Aid kit similar to some I had seen online for one present.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Filled with some essentials: Wet Wipes, BandAids, Neosporin, Advil</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I can't get it to turn the right way!<br />
<div align="left"><br />
</div></td></tr>
</tbody></table>I also made a cover for my mother-in-law's mixer from <a href="http://pinoyinoz.blogspot.com/2010/11/mini-tutorial-how-to-make-kitchenaid.html">this tutorial</a>. I hope it fits! Her kitchen is green and I had some extra green Ruby.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDF-9lx5J0HHFjLopoll4v4WC_x23LnvxTbE_4FiyZml1revf3zxKitjbh-h-QLzhCL94f0M-rNiR6oh9Up2V7GCZweB8asvDDN-IlsDUGki3RQRjPAezwelFAUizkIHYusqhMdifTiuC4/s1600/SAM_0439.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDF-9lx5J0HHFjLopoll4v4WC_x23LnvxTbE_4FiyZml1revf3zxKitjbh-h-QLzhCL94f0M-rNiR6oh9Up2V7GCZweB8asvDDN-IlsDUGki3RQRjPAezwelFAUizkIHYusqhMdifTiuC4/s320/SAM_0439.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I hate bias tape. I decided to make it for this project and the tutorial suggested covering the seams in it on the sides. I knew better than to think that would look good when I was finished so I just added a little piece inside the seam that I sewed right sides together. I did put the bias tape at the bottom which was not too hard. I hope she likes it! <br />
<br />
I am still working on the Ruby Lattice quilt. I got it back from the machine quilter's (first time using them) and it looks great! Now I just need to square it up and put on the binding. The end is soooo close! Finishing it up means that baby will be here before we know it. I can't wait to hold her. I know she is going to be precious! <br />
<br />
Merry Christmas! <br />
I have made several simple knit and fleece baby blankets and also more make-up bags using the same tutorial.<br />
<br />
I finished up the quilt top (except for cutting off the excess triangles on the edges) of the Chopsticks quilt. Since it has no recipient right now, I have decided to move on to another quilt.<br />
<br />
This quilt is for a co-worker of P's. She is expecting a baby girl in February. I fell in love with the Ruby line as soon as I saw it in quilts. We chose the Lattice Baby Quilt design from Moda Bake Shop for this quilt. Here are the squares laid out so far. There are so many mini polka dot prints that it was hard to find a good arrangement. I just keep reminding myself that there will be (cream) sashing in between. :)<br />
<br />

</div>Here are some other things I have <strike>picked up</strike> had delivered recently. Two charm packs of Terrain and a set of fat quarters of Little Apples. The Little Apples set is my Christmas present so I can't cut into it just yet. <br />
<br />

Another blogger posted a link to information about Crochet School taught in videos by Craftyminx. I have really enjoyed logging on each night to see if there is something new to do. I also know how to knit, but I keep forgetting how to purl. I also never finished many projects (except some dish cloths and I am almost through with my scarf.) Crochet was hard the first time I tried it (before knitting), but now makes a lot more sense. It is easier since there is just one hook for the entire project and only several basic stitiches when combined in different ways yeild different designs. I plan to try to crochet some baby blankets just to test it out.<br />
<br />
I loved the format of the class because she taught one stitch at a time. We then completed about 4 rows of each type and they built on each other to form this neat little swatch that I can use as a reference later. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIV8k1A8UqEgqURMpz6q0_A9uTw19z9VXWYLZol6iS5hpOFWoR2AxGDfKWyTUPI_ymsXlmvgh9DoIgcXe1rJXEXEp-lltE7ZEHaAU_DGeaOwN4rrgP27qkYSrtiujrBrkE0Txds8Eg4sbz/s1600/Crochet+Swatch.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" nda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIV8k1A8UqEgqURMpz6q0_A9uTw19z9VXWYLZol6iS5hpOFWoR2AxGDfKWyTUPI_ymsXlmvgh9DoIgcXe1rJXEXEp-lltE7ZEHaAU_DGeaOwN4rrgP27qkYSrtiujrBrkE0Txds8Eg4sbz/s320/Crochet+Swatch.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I also croched three granny squares as a part of a lesson, but I somehow lost two along the way. :( <br />

Wow! In the past month, I have finished two quilts. One for my dad and one for a friend who was getting married. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjar8QXzGj7LARmo9KqGahZtNVqZ3Vm7S-rEn6sCehgVBCvEyYbGzyPQzXCVBCHt-aEjLZ3V5_sLG38KrXVaMoPp4FfUm1NZWJgeSDx_lKDJ8gZgq6zhYQOa89g4jwU5p7dKNbrf631BrU-/s1600/tn%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" hca="true" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjar8QXzGj7LARmo9KqGahZtNVqZ3Vm7S-rEn6sCehgVBCvEyYbGzyPQzXCVBCHt-aEjLZ3V5_sLG38KrXVaMoPp4FfUm1NZWJgeSDx_lKDJ8gZgq6zhYQOa89g4jwU5p7dKNbrf631BrU-/s320/tn%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is the quilt I made for my Dad. I planned it to match his living room. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>The other quilt, I forgot to take a finished picture of. :( <br />
<br />
Since I finished these two a few weeks ago, I haven't really done a lot. I have still been busy with the start of school, Open House, and just getting back in the swing of things. <br />
<br />
This weekend, I decided to start something new. I bought the <a href="http://www.pinkchalkfabrics.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=39_75_592&products_id=6919">Chopsticks</a> pattern a while back as well as the fabric to make it. I chose to use Fresh Flowers by Deb Strain. My LQS also had some fabric that coordinated well with it from one of her earlier lines (the yellow). <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja75NOR7SlazdJSmZXr455lpjqWktOVKXoQWjwP2H0aeS6EBupnU2I9-VxOJgUhhNFh6PkGSauSEh6hZgPMzcA4KdnFi39py4j4kEf17tBqycYhd9bjl6oUNbKKVnO7q1VamvBJYIqMbWo/s1600/Fresh+Flowers.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hca="true" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja75NOR7SlazdJSmZXr455lpjqWktOVKXoQWjwP2H0aeS6EBupnU2I9-VxOJgUhhNFh6PkGSauSEh6hZgPMzcA4KdnFi39py4j4kEf17tBqycYhd9bjl6oUNbKKVnO7q1VamvBJYIqMbWo/s320/Fresh+Flowers.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I got confused at the cutting table and was missing a fabric. I chose another blue and not the red. I planned for the other blue fabric to be in the quilt, but after it was washed, it was a bit too short. I also realized that I didn't want two blue prints although I loved them both. I went back and got the red which I think will add a lot to the quilt. I will just try not to place the red and blue flowers side by side too often. <br />
<br />
I just finished sewing up two of the blocks. Here is what they look like so far:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhf0OBZxoChKmBP0UzbYd_YaOnjya3gpEp0lLo9Jr5K2avzS6Xo53SgHqAoUPA_J3lMZHyQ0nBtN5PFOHjQ_jVuxGpK8IE1i7Y3gJMsAbF0-bMcow5ebdCq40Lck5tGI98citzRthKenPW/s1600/Chopsticks.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hca="true" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhf0OBZxoChKmBP0UzbYd_YaOnjya3gpEp0lLo9Jr5K2avzS6Xo53SgHqAoUPA_J3lMZHyQ0nBtN5PFOHjQ_jVuxGpK8IE1i7Y3gJMsAbF0-bMcow5ebdCq40Lck5tGI98citzRthKenPW/s320/Chopsticks.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> I love this quilt already! Only 22 more blocks to go. :) Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13946642384736641325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2580374892684688256.post-11040948419897528132011-08-27T09:11:00.000-04:002011-08-27T09:11:49.975-04:00Long Time No Blog!Wow! It has been a while since I have posted. Since my last post, we have attended a wedding (P's best friend's wedding to be exact), enjoyed time with family, and started back to school. <br />
<br />
I can not say enough about my class this year. I am so excited to really get into it in the next few weeks. They have been wonderful with only a few small conflicts. :) They are all precious and sooooo sweet. <br />
<br />
As a late birthday present, P let me order some fabric I have been dying to get. <br />

I love to work on binding while watching my favorite shows. I chose to bind it using the same brown from the front of the quilt. Only a side and a half left to go! It needs to be done by the 9th when I go back home. I'm sure it will be done. I calculated last night that this quilt has about 182 straight lines quilted on it. That's a lot, but it looks great. I will NEVER quilt lines that close together again!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWt4I7G5PIWaHFYgVGhGVIfzuzmlFkg7H0HEj-Q52YTcO7b_vG9-MXJSDwydXtjCp0wH3SXfKol-hc1EGEM5tEwnFmJdWzFCMamPP-w6w0G6x8yDXqkmI7ZDxWZnvhI35V-D9-hpB0zbFb/s1600/Binding.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" qaa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWt4I7G5PIWaHFYgVGhGVIfzuzmlFkg7H0HEj-Q52YTcO7b_vG9-MXJSDwydXtjCp0wH3SXfKol-hc1EGEM5tEwnFmJdWzFCMamPP-w6w0G6x8yDXqkmI7ZDxWZnvhI35V-D9-hpB0zbFb/s320/Binding.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">Now I am working on a very special project for one of my best friends. She has been asking for years for a blue and brown quilt. She is getting married in two weeks, and I just started on her quilt. She also chose blue and brown as the colors for her wedding. I bought the paisley fabric a few years ago at a quilt show. My grandmother said she was going to buy it if I wanted it and we ended up buying all that was left on the bolt (because they gave you a % off if you bought it all and it was already 50% off). I knew that it was going to be used for this special friend, but I debated for a long time on what pattern I wanted to use. I finally settled on using the Fractured Pinwheels pattern from the book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/24-Hour-Quilts-Rita-Weiss/dp/B000C4SOHA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314450490&sr=8-1">24 Hour Quilts</a>. A week ago, our new bedroom furniture arrived and we LOVE it! Before, we had several pieces from different places that we put together to "make it work." Now, we have a matching set complete with two nightstands. :)<br />
<br />
On Tuesday, I drove to Charleston for the day. My aunt and cousin were there for a baseball tournament so I went to visit. We went to the market which is always fun. We enjoyed some great food and an afternoon of baseball. <br />
<br />
A few weeks ago, one of P's co-workers saw his sandwich wrap and said she wanted one. She also requested a make up bag that was fairly small, but still large enough to carry essentials. I found a site with links to many different tutorials and let her chose the bags she liked best. In the end, I decided to use the tutorial for a <a href="http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=176509.0">Straight Sided Triangular Cosmetic Bag</a>. The tutorial is okay, but it became a little rough. I just used what I already knew about making bags (although I am not too good with the zippers). I made this as a test bag just to see the size. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMtSC7lWLpNnZwitjvHpexceZYs-cMlO3ufb3jzQhVCBQqXE9ttxL1tNINBwLb6stCicyOVYaibf4anNw_qQDewFh8peZUxj4vTdYT3gpO1arY6VVMQqrLvgWRxANzNsYlKfgUXn8vbzpq/s1600/SAM_0181.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMtSC7lWLpNnZwitjvHpexceZYs-cMlO3ufb3jzQhVCBQqXE9ttxL1tNINBwLb6stCicyOVYaibf4anNw_qQDewFh8peZUxj4vTdYT3gpO1arY6VVMQqrLvgWRxANzNsYlKfgUXn8vbzpq/s320/SAM_0181.JPG" t$="true" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This fabric is from the remnants bin at Hobby Lobby</td></tr>
</tbody></table>It turned out to be perfect, but I still needed to work on the zipper. Here is the bag I made for L. She requested cupcake fabric, and I knew the Michael Miller Cupcake Party would be perfect! I used Michael Miller Little Hearts for the inside. These prints work well together. <br />

I am not crazy about it because it is right on the flat size, but upside down on the folded side. It is still cute, though.<br />
<br />
I haven't made much progress on the quilt. I have about 3 other quilts that I need to get started on, but I want to finish this one first. I just can't find the motivation to do it. :( <br />
<br />
Only two more weeks of vacation before school starts, but I am ready!<br />
